100 Wishes Quilt Project

I have been looking for something to create as a lifelong keepsake for our son and I have finally decided to do the 100 Wishes Quilt. Joe and I are going to ask all of our friends and family as well as anyone out there in the adoption community who would like to contribute to help create this gift of love and good wishes for our son.

To create this quilt, one asks one hundred people to each contribute a single square patch of cloth. The 100 patches are sewn together into a quilt that contains the luck and good wishes from all those family members and friends.

I am beginning to gather patches for a quilt for our son. Would you consider contributing a square or two of cloth along with a separate written wish or prayer for this child on a small card or piece of paper? Wish can be written on a 3X5 card, but no larger than 4X6. Please attach a small square of the fabric to the wish card. These wishes will be going into a scrapbook, and when Stephen gets older he can match the squares of the quilt to the wishes in the scrapbook. The size of the squares is "8X8”. The material should be a cotton fabric, either printed or solid – you make the choice. You can contribute an old scrap of cloth, or you can use a new piece of material. A wider variety of fabrics and colors will make the quilt more interesting. Anything goes – as life is an unexpected patchwork of happenings and events. I would greatly appreciate the material and wishes you could send for our son. They will be treasured forever.

I am going to ask the caretakers at the orphanage and anyone else who assists us when we are there to contribute their wishes as well...only I will bring along the fabric for them. If they write it is Russian I will ask the translator to write it in English on the back. I am so excited about this project! I must admit I have no idea how long it will take...especially since I am new to quilting!

Dawn,
Thanks for your kind words on my blog. I love the quilt idea. My friend and I are quilters. Quilting has helped me keep my sanity during my adoption process. I have completed 2 quilts and have 2 more almost done since starting my adoption last April.

I hope you feel better soon and have a wonderful trip to meet your son. It will be the best experience in your life (up to this point). I treasure the 4 days I was able to spend with my daughter in November. It helps me get through the never ending wait.

Take Care,
Susan
